장소 관점에서 본 항만의 문화자산 가치와 활용방안에 관한 연구

본 연구는 항만이 대중에게 있어 산업시설 이상의 의미를 두지 못하고 ‘타자의 영역’, ‘무관심의 장소’로 인식되는 문제를 주목하였다. 이에 경제적 의미와 시설만을 고려하는 관점에서 전환하여 인간과 공간 사이에서 상호작용에 형성되는 ‘장소’ 관점으로 항만을 접근하였다. 그동안 항만 이미지 인식개선을 위한 연구·정책은 개선방향이 선호도에 치중해 산발적이거나 맥락이 왜곡되고 심리적인 거리를 해소하기에 미흡한 측면이 있었다. 이에 문헌조사와 현장조사를 병행하여 항만 문화자산 활용 사례를 비교분석하여 항만의 문화자산을 분류·검토하고, 대중에게 의미 있는 ‘장소’로서 항만이 형성될 수 있는 방안을 모색하였다. 따라서 본 연구는 장소 관점에서 항만에 대한 이론적 검토와 기초자료를 제시하고, 타 연구에서 활발하였던 장소 연구를 해운항만분야에 적용하여 기존 인식연구에 대한 새로운 패러다임을 제시하였다.
Abstract
Ports, despite their profound influence on cities, nations, industries, and individuals, have often been overlooked by the public, who tend to view them either as 'other people's territory' or with indifference. This perception is largely due to prevailing promotional strategies that solely emphasize their economic and functional uses, thereby reinforcing a one-dimensional view. Furthermore, research on cultural assets of ports and their potential for generating socio-cultural value remains insufficient. Accordingly, this study seeks to recognize ports as dynamic "places" shaped by the interaction between people and space. To this end, it explores the cultural assets of ports, analyzing their utilization in detail through a combination of literature review and field research. Therefore, this study categorizes port cultural assets and offers recommendations for their effective utilization. By introducing a place-based perspective to the maritime sector, this research offers a new paradigm for enhancing the perception of ports.
