The living room is a common space in a family’s house and nowadays, the time spent using this space has increased. Thus, there is a growing demand for elaborate living room furniture with diverse design, particularly sofas. In this study, domestic and foreign status of demand for household sofa was analyzed. Then, various sofa designs with practical functions were presented through 3D rendering. Furthermore, a proposal was made on functional sofa design that is customized for maximum comfort and user’s physical shape based on ergonomics. It is hoped that the proposals in this study will serve as a guide for systematic development of the sofa industry in Korea, particularly in the conduct of Research and Development (R&D) endeavors in designing a sofa, a critical element of living room furniture.
