본 연구의 목적은 남성 한부모 가정 자녀의 적응경험과 적응과정을 알아보고 이에 영향을 미치는 요인에 대하여 탐색하는 것이다. 이를 위해 남성 한부모 가정의 20대 자녀 10명을 대상으로 심층면접을 실시하였고, 근거이론 방법론을 적용하여 자료를 분석하였다(Strauss & Corbin, 1998; Corbin & Strauss, 2008). 본 연구결과 103개의 개념, 41개의 하위범주, 18개의 범주가 도출되었으며, 패러다임에 의한 범주분석 결과 남성 한부모 가정 자녀가 경험하는 중심현상은 ‘정서적 안전지대의 상실’이었고, ‘상실 이전의 가족 응집력’과 ‘준비되지 않은 이별’이 인과적 조건으로 도출되었다. 중심현상에 대한 작용/상호작용은 ‘애도하기’, ‘거리두기’, ‘모색하기’, ‘수용하기’, ‘드러내기’, ‘독립하기’로 나타났고, ‘자유로워짐’, ‘성장으로 단단해짐’, ‘미해결과제’의 결과가 도출되었다. 맥락적 조건은 ‘일상의 변화’와 ‘한부모에 대한 사회적 시선’, ‘상실 초기 가족관계 변화’로 나타났으며, 중재적 조건으로 ‘가족의 지지’, ‘주위 사람들의 지지’, ‘개인의 성격적 자질’의 범주가 도출되었다. 남성 한부모 가정 자녀의 적응과정은 ‘억압단계’, ‘모색단계’, ‘자각단계’, ‘독립지향단계’로 나타났으며, 핵심범주는 ‘상실의 혼돈을 딛고 주도적 삶을 준비함’으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 남성 한부모 가정 자녀의 적응과정과 이에 영향을 미치는 요인에 대하여 통합적으로 이해함으로써 남성 한부모 가정 자녀를 위한 전문적 상담 개입 방안 마련의 기초자료를 제시하였다는 의의를 갖는다.
Abstract
Objectives: This study aimed to present a substantial theory on the adaptation process of children raised by single fathers. Methods: The grounded theory method by Strauss and Corbin (1998) was used to analyze experiences of children in their 20s who had been raised in single father families. Results: Through the analysis, 103 concepts, 40 subcategories, and 18 categories were produced. The central phenomenon was “loss of the emotional safety zone.” The causal conditions were “family cohesion before the loss,” and “no prepared farewell.” Contextual conditions were “change of daily life,” “sociological perspectives on the single parent,” and “change of family relationship in the early loss.” Intervention conditions were “support of family,” “support of surrounding people,” and “problem solving style.” Actions/Interactions were “mourning,” “keeping distance,” “seeking,” “accepting,” “disclosing,” and “independence.” Consequences were “being free,” “strengthened by growth,” and “unresolved problems.” The adaptation process consisted of “the stage of suppression,” “the stage of groping,” “the stage of awareness,” and “the stage of independent aim.” The core category was “to prepare for self-initiated life after getting over confusion.” Conclusions: Specific suggestions for professional therapy were provided.
