Abstract
Purpose: This study investigated the longitudinal effects of demographic characteristics, stress factors, intrapersonal psychological factor, and social environmental factors on life satisfaction among students with disabilities. Method: The participants were 114 students with disabilities enrolled in 5th grade to middle and high school students. Hierarchical multiple regression analysis was conducted. Results: First, earlier life satisfaction significantly predicted later life satisfaction. Second, demographic characteristics such as gender, school level, and severity of disability did not predict life satisfaction. Third, after controlling for the autoregressive effect of life satisfaction and the effects of demographic characteristics, physical health as stress factors positively predicted life satisfaction, while disability-related limitations in daily life negatively predicted. Fourth, after controlling for the autoregressive effect of life satisfaction, as well as the effects of demographic characteristics and stress factors, intrapersonal psychological factor such as self-esteem did not predict life satisfaction. Fifth, after controlling for the autoregressive effect of life satisfaction, demographic characteristics, stress factors, and intrapersonal psychological factor, social environmental factors such as number of close acquaintances, and social support did not predict life satisfaction. Conclusion: The study suggests that improving the future life satisfaction of students with disabilities requires enhancing their current life satisfaction and addressing stress factors.
