초록

Purpose: To comprehensively review nurses’ experience of caring for COVID-19 inpatients in Korean hospitals. Methods: A qualitative meta-synthesis suggested by Thomas and Harden was conducted in this study. Seven qualitative studies were selected and synthesized to describe experiences of ward nurses caring for COVID-19 inpatients in Korean hospitals. Results: The following four themes with 13 sub-themes were synthesized from qualitative studies: Unstable emotions experienced in the care of COVID-19 patients; Exhaustion due to poor working environment; Demoralization due to insufficient institutions and guidelines; Growth as a nurse through COVID-19 patients nursing experience. Conclusion: These findings illuminated the necessity to improve the medical response system for new emerging infectious diseases and provide support for various resources nationally based on ward nurses’ experiences of caring for COVID-19 inpatients in Korean hospitals.
