Abstract

Buried Cultural Heritage generally means it has been excavated from the ground. The buried cultural heritage is valuable things as a historical material, because it can be used to testify about the study of past culture and era. The buried paper cultural heritage has been immersed for a long time, therefore the material is weakened. Since it is excavated under the ground, deterioration is accelerated. So it is necessary to proper conservation. Conservation treatment is a series of works to repair and restore the archetypes of cultural heritage using science and technology. The environmental factors in which the relics are buried, the collect process in the excavation site, and the treatment methods have a decisive effect on the preservation status of the relics. Excavated Funeral Ode from the Tomb of Gwon Goeng is considered to be an important material to study the information of the people in depth in the middle of the Joseon Dynasty, because the letter and contents of representative scholars is relatively remained. We determined the tools, materials, treatment methods used for conservation based on the current state and material characteristics of Funeral Ode from the Tomb. Through analyzing fiber, It was confirmed that the main material was made of paper mulberry bast fibers. Separating lumpy Funeral Ode together with moisture was the most urgent and important. We laid rayon paper under the paper for protecting the relics and separated from each other in a space where temperature and humidity were maintained. We repeated wet washing to remove foreign substances it causes an odor and discoloration stuck to the surface of the relics. The part where the strength was weakened due to damage was partially restored by supporting it. After treatment, regular inspections should be carried out to check the status of the conservative relics. In addition, it is necessary to investigate on information and the effect of relics the various pollutants was found along with the excavated relics. Based on this, it is necessary to study multiply the methods of preserving and treating buried cultural heritage and establish them for the preservation of buried cultural heritage that are easily damaged such as Funeral Ode from the Tomb of Gwon Goeng.
