Abstract

Sijo is such a unique Shiga to the Korean people with which they would express their psychiatry and emotion in the most Korean way. Therefore, even today, a modern-version Sijo has been created and continues its tradition. Sijo features two aspects, musical and literary, and its origin can be found in their ancient Korean poetry(上代詩歌) and its rhythm. In the past, in Sijo a musical personality was evident, but today a literary tendency is strong. Before the creation of Sijochang(時調唱), this kind of ancient Sijo was called Gagogchang(歌曲唱). In other words, it is Sijochang(時調唱) that made Gagogchang plain and made it possible for anyone to sing anywhere. But today, Sijo is enjoyed with eyes, not with sound. Today if the song is for ‘singing,’ poetry is for ‘reading.’ In particular, the spoken word and the writing have different ways of being. If the spoken word is a temporal entity, the writing is a spatial one. For instance, the spoken word has information such as height, speed, size, shade, gesture, and facial expression. However, since there is no such information in the writing, it is not easy to understand the field through the writing. Especially, it is not easy to share emotions and feelings through the writing in a language other than the native language. Today, the languages of Korea, Japan, and China are different. But the alphabets of the three different cultures share the same origin. It was inevitable to record Korean songs in a time when the Korean people did not have their own alphabet called ‘Hangul’. And even after Hangul was created, the Korean territory was still established. Particularly, in the process of reproducing the Korean song in a one-hour form, a variety of methods have been sought to convert the Sijo, lyrics, songs, and folksongs into a variety of poetic forms. While Koreans tried to maximize their native language in this process, they lengthened or shortened the poetic form, or scattered the original rhythm.
