Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance on emotional eating and to validate the mediating effects of rejection sensitivity, depressive rumination and anger rumination among women in their 20’s and 30s. Participants were 377 women aged 20 to 39. Data analysis involved descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation analyses and the PROCESS Macro for bootstrapping indirect effects. The results of this study were summarized as follows. First, there were partial mediating effects of rejection sensitivity, depressive rumination and anger rumination on the relationship between attachment anxiety, attachment avoidance and emotional eating separately. Second, attachment anxiety and avoidance indirectly affect emotional eating through rejection sensitivity and rumination. The findings emphasize the importance of considering attachment styles, rejection sensitivity, and rumination in interventions targeting emotional eating. The implications and limitations of the study are discussed.
