한국 속 태류(泰流)현상의 배경과 현황

Abstract

This article aims to show the background, form, origin and effect of the emerging "Thai Wave,"as well as to understand its provisional tendency as being experienced in the Korean society in a comparably diverse opportunity. The discussion of Thai Wave covers topics such as migrant workers, international marriage migrants, mass culture, food, massage, tourism and education. Each topic shows diverse tendency. Korean War is the historical event for the background of Thai Wave and is also a reason for Thai's recognition of Koreans. This recognition positively reforms itself and becomes an indirect and comprehensive background when Korea's amazing economic development took place. There are a number of origins for Thai Wave but the most concrete ones include bilateral economic relations, Korean tourists' experience in Thailand and the reflux effect of Korean wave. Currently, except for the migrant workers, the effect of Thai Wave could still be considered as insignificant. The main reason is because Thai Wave will show its significance in the near future than now. Furthermore, the influence of mass culture is not powerful enough to lead the Thai Wave. Though its effect is insignificant at the present, the influence and importance of Thai Wave should not be underestimated. Negative signs being brought by problems with migrant workers and international marriage immigrants may also be factors in limiting the possibility of improving Korea's image abroad and strengthening diplomatic influences. The inflow of Thai mass culture will play an important role when it come to two-way cultural interchange with the Korean Wave. Considering the acknowledged view of the expansion of Korean Wave as a part of Korea's cultural and economic development; the two-way cultural interchange will bring about the effect of alleviating this misrepresented biased view.
