‘자주성의 역설’에 대한 성찰

북한의 주체사상이 수령절대주의 체제를 정당화하는 기능을 수행해왔다는 사실은 이미 많이 지적되어 왔다. 이와 동시에 주체사상을 구성하는 사람중심의 철학적 세계관 자체는 인본적이고 민주적인 내용을 담고 있다는 긍정적 평가도 제기되고 있다. 이글의 목적은 주체사상의 핵심 개념인 자주성 개념에 대한 고찰을 통해서 일각에서의 평가와 달리 사람중심의 철학적 세계관 자체가 이미 근대적 자유에 대한 심각한 축소와 왜곡을 함축하고 있음을 밝히는 데에 있다. 이를 위해 이글은 먼저 북한의 주체철학 내에서 자주성 개념이 가지는 의미와 위상 그리고 자주성과 자유 개념 사이의 관계를 분석했다. 다음으로 이글은 근대적 자유 이념을 구성하는 복합적 측면들을 해명한 후, 자주성 개념이 근대적 자유의 의미를 심각하게 축소․왜곡하고 있음을 밝혔다. 이에 따르면, 자주성 개념 속에는 먼저 최소 인권 개념이 터할 수 있는 소극적 자유의 개념이 들어설 여지가 없으며, 인간의 다원성과 복수성의 근거가 되는 진정성으로서의 자유 이념이 자라날 수 있는 터전도 없다. 뿐만 아니라 자주성에 잠재되어 있는 민주적 자기지배의 이념은 오로지 제국주의 침탈에 맞서 국가주권의 독립성을 유지한다는 의미로 축소되고 있다. 결국 오늘날 북한사회에서 벌어지고 있는 ‘자주성의 역설’에 대한 근본적 성찰을 위해서는 이데올로기와 현실 사이의 괴리에 대한 분석을 넘어 주체철학 자체에 대한 근원적 성찰과 비판이 불가피한 것으로 보인다.
Abstract
It is well known that Juche idea has a function of justifying north Korean ruling system. But simultaneously the positive evaluations to its philosophical core are often suggested, according to them human centered philosophy has itself humanistic and democratic contents. This thesis argued that the human centered philosophy itself distorted and reduced the meanings of modern freedom by the concept of independence(jajuseong), the key concept of Juche philosophy. For this aim, firstly, I analysed the meaning and status of the concept of independence(jajuseong), and the relations between the concept of freedom and the concept independence(jajuseong) in Juche philosophy. Secondly, I explained the complex elements of the modern freedom, and brought it to light that the concept of independence(jajuseong) distorted and reduced the idea of modern freedom seriously. There seems to be no places for minimal human rights and authenticity in Juche philosophy, which are necessary for human plurality. In addition, the idea of democratic self-rule, which was latent in the concept of independence(jajuseong), was reduced to the independence of state sovereignty for resisting imperialism. So, for resolving the paradoxes of independence(jajuseong) in north Korean society, it seems to be necessary not only to analyse and criticise gaps between ruling ideology and realities in north Korea, but also to radically reflect the Juche philosophy itself.
