이 연구는 독일통일과정에서 동독사회에서 사회주의 이데올로기가 가지는 의미를 분석하는 목적이 있다. 동독의 평화혁명에서 사회주의 이데올로기는 ‘이중의 역할’을 수행했다. 사회주의는 저항이데올로기로서의 역할을 수행했다. 1970년대 대표적인 동독의 비판적인 지식인이면서 반체제인사였던 루돌프 바로(Rudolf Bahro)는 동독사회를 마르크스의 고전적 사회주의 개념과 비교하고 ‘실제로 존재하는 사회주의’로 규정했다. 그는 동독사회에서 왜곡된 마르크스주의에 의해서 노동계급을 착취하는 독특한(sui generis) 생산양식이라고 주장했다. 또한 1980년대 동독의 ‘평화혁명’을 주도했던 비판적인 지식인들과 Neues Forum의 지도자들은 사회주의적 이데올로기적 정체성을 근간으로 동독 사회를 비판하였을 뿐만 아니라 동독사회가 새로운 사회주의 사회가 되어야 한다는 점을 역설했다. 이 시기 사회주의 이데올로기는 실제로 존재하는 사회주의로서의 동독 사회를 비판하는 저항이데올로기이면서 동시에 미래 동독사회가 나아가야 할 유토피아였다. 하지만 비판적인 지식인들의 제시했던 ‘민주적 사회주의’라는 새로운 유토피아는 시민들에게 수용되지 않았으며 독일은 통일의 길을 선택하게 된다.
Abstract
The purpose of this research is to analyse the meaning the ideology of socialism in East-Germany during the process of the Germany unification. The ideology of socialism plays double roles in the peaceful revolution of East-Germany. Rudolf Bahro, who was a notable critical intellectual and dissident of East-Germany in 1970s, defined a ‘Actually existing socialism’ comparing to the concept of Karl Marx’s classical socialism. He insisted a sui generis mode of production which exploited the working-class through a distorted Marxism. And some critical intellectuals and leaders of Neues Forum, who leaded peaceful revolution of East-Germany in 1980s, criticized the East-German Society based on the ideological identity of socialism. They also insisted that East-Germany had to be a new socialist society. The ideology of socialism was about a utopia that the East German society might be a way forward for future as well as a resistant ideology criticizing East-Germany as a really existing socialism at that time. Although the East German citizens may not accept ‘democratic socialism’as a new utopia that some critical intellectuals proposed, they chose the reunification of Germany.
