휴머니즘적 교육생태학의 가능성 탐구: 머레이 북친의 사회생태론을 중심으로

본 연구는 현대의 근대적 교육 담론이 갖는 한계를 진단하고, 나아가 이를 극복할 수 있는 방안으로서 휴머니즘에 기반 한 ‘교육생태학’의 정립에 대한 시론적 검토를 목적으로 하였다. 생태주의의 담론은 현대 교육의 위기 상황을 극복할 수 있는 유용한 이론적 대안으로서 논의의 대상이 되기에 충분한 가치가 있다. 그러나 근대 계몽주의 담론을 학문적 기반으로 하는 현대 교육학의 특성 상 반근대주의의 성격이 짙은 생태주의의 담론을 교육학적으로 받아들이는 것은 자칫 교육학의 휴머니즘적 이상을 무력화시키고 나아가 학문적 기반을 위태롭게 할 여지가 있다. 이러한 딜레마를 해결하기 위해서는 생태주의 담론의 안티-휴먼머니즘적 논의를 비판하며 등장한 북친의 사회생태론적 관점을 통해 교육의 새로운 담론으로서 교육생태학의 가능성을 타진해야만 한다. 교육생태학 정립의 관건은 결국 휴머니즘의 기조 아래에서 교육적으로 관계성의 담론을 어떻게 확장시킬 것인가로 귀결된다. 이러한 관점에서 신자유주의적 시장화로 인해 파편화된 개인으로부터 교육적 관계성을 회복시키기 위해 북친적 관점의 생태적 휴머니즘은 휴머니즘적 교육생태학 담론의 구현의 단초가 될 수 있다. 신자유주의적 비인간화에 매몰된, 오늘날의 교육적 관계성은 휴머니즘의 재발견과 더불어 교육생태학의 이념에 따른 타자에 대한 이해와 인정, 그리고 이로부터 창출되는 교육적 다양성의 발현으로 비로소 복원될 수 있다.
Abstract
This study aims to diagnose the limitations of modern discourse on education and investigate the establishment of the humanistic ‘ecology of education’ as a way to overcome them. The discourse of ecology is of sufficient value as a theory that can overcome the crisis of modern education. However, pedagogical acceptance of the anti-modernist discourse of ecology, based on the modern enlightenment discourse, could undermine the humanistic ideals of pedagogy and endanger its academic foundation. To solve this dilemma, it is necessary to pay attention to Murry Bookchin’s social ecological perspective, which emerged during the criticism of the anti-humanist discussion of ecological discourse. The key to establishing the ecology of education through Bookchin’s theory of social ecology eventually comes down to how the discourse of relations is educationally expanded. Bookchin’s ecological humanism as a way to restore educational relationships from individuals fragmented by neo-liberalization has a clear meaning in realizing the discourse on the ecology of education. Today’s educational relations, buried in neo-liberal dehumanization, can be restored to the understanding and recognition of others in the ecology of education and the educational diversity created therefrom.
