사회자본이 보훈의식에 미치는 영향: 한·미 양국간 특성 비교

초록

본 연구는 서구와는 다른 역사적 전통을 지닌 우리나라에서 사회자본과 보훈의식의 관계가 서구사회와 마찬가지로 인과성을 갖는지를 조사하는데 목적을 두었다. 이를 위해 세계가치조사의 2010-2013년 자료를 바탕으로 한·미 양국간 사회자본과 보훈의식의 인과성을 분석하였다. 사회자본과 보훈의식의 인과관계 분석은 사회자본 유형별 효과 비교에 초점을 두었다. 분석결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 사회자본 수준에 있어 한·미 양국간 뚜렷한 차이를 보였다. 한국은 폐쇄적 사회자본(사적규범, 사적신뢰, 취미단체 참여)이 미국과 유사하거나 높았고, 미국은 개방적 사회자본(공적규범, 일반신뢰, 수평적 단체참여, 적극적 정치참여)이 한국보다 확연히 높았다. 둘째, 보훈의식 수준에 있어서도 한·미 양국간 차이를 보였다. 한국은 국가 수호의지가 높고, 미국은 국민적 정체성과 자긍심이 높게 나타났다. 보훈의식 변화추이에 있어서는 양국 공히 전반적으로 줄어드는 양상을 보였다. 다만, 한국의 국민적 정체성과 자긍심은 2005년 이후부터 다소 증가하는 모습을 보였다. 셋째, 사회자본과 보훈의식의 인과성은 한·미 양국간 변수별 매우 달리 나타났다. 한국은 폐쇄적 사회자본(사적신뢰, 취미단체 참여)과 인과성이 높고, 미국은 개방적 사회자본(일반신뢰, 시민단체 참여, 소극적 정치참여, 적극적 정치참여)과 높은 인과성을 보였다. 단, 규범과 정부신뢰는 한국과 미국에서 공통적으로 보훈의식에 긍정적인 영향력을 보이고 있었다. 이러한 결과를 토대로 본 연구에서는 보훈의식을 증진시킬 수 있는 방향 및 정책적 함의에 대해 논의 하였다.

Abstract

This study examines the characteristics of social capital type and its impact on patriotic conscious of Korea and America. For the purpose of this study, it analyzes what are the dominant types of social capital in Korea and America, how these types of social capital influence national conscious classified 3 components: national identity, national pride, spirit of national security. Based on the World Value Survey data from 2010 to 2013, this research finds following results. ➀ The levels of social capital in Korea and America are significantly different. Korea have the high vertical social capital (private norm, private trust, vertical engagement), while the America have the high horizontal social capital (public norm, general trust, horizontal engagement, political engagement). ➁ The levels of patriotic conscious in Korea and America are significantly different. Korea has the high spirit of national security, while America has the high national identity and pride. In addition, America’s patriotic conscious seems the trend of gradual decrease, while the Korea’s patriotic conscious except the spirit of national security seems the trend of gradual increase from 2005. ③ The influences by type of social capital to the patriotic conscious are significantly different from Korea and America. Korea's patriotic conscious has a positive causal relationship with vertical social capital, while America's patriotic conscious has a high causality with horizontal social capital. Based upon such results, this research discusses how to raise up patriotic conscious through the increase of social capital.
