Abstract
This study aimed to draw factors promoting the participation in worksite sport and physical activities from Korean business situation. As there is neither precedent research on the factors influencing on the participation in worksite sport and physical activities nor theoretical model for it, the authors gave priority to the survey with open-ended questionnaire to get a wide range of related factors. The second phase of the study was to make structured questionnaire based on the result of the first survey and to conduct exploratory factor analysis of the items in the questionnaire to investigate factors promoting the participation in worksite sport and physical activities. The third phase of the study was to conduct AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) that compares factors one by one to decide the relative significance of factors drawn from the factor analysis. As results, 161 valid responses appeared in the first phase of the study were categorized into 44 subject items, 14 specific areas and finally 3 general areas through inductive content analysis. Exploratory factor analysis in the second phase of the study produced 9 factors that have influence on the participation in worksite sport and physical activities. The result of AHP revealed relative priority of 9 factors: recognition among owners and managers, employees' will to participate, spare time, construction and maintenance of facilities, organizational atmosphere, colleagues, financial support of the company, contents of the program, administrative support of the company. Thus, policy that helps owners and managers of companies to recognize the importance of worksite sport and physical activities is most urgently required to promote worksite sport and physical activities, while the enforcement of intra-company system to motivate employees to participate in the program, adoption of flexible time and construction of sport facilities are needed in consecutive order.
