中國小說 「西漢演義」는 中國 刊行本을 國內에 직접 들여온 경우도 있지만, 국내에서 漢文筆寫本, 板刻本, 活字本 등으로 제작되어 유통되었다. 漢文筆寫本은 역사적인 ‘演義’의 성격을 지녔다. 國文飜譯本의 경우에는 중국 간행본을 들여와 거의 直譯 수준의 번역을 통해 읽혔는가 하면, 壓縮된 飜譯을 통하여 板刻本으로, 또는 活字本으로 유통되기도 했다. 판각본의 경우에는 흥미 있는 장면 위주로 사건을 재편성하고 있다. 活字本은 독자들의 흥미를 끌 수 있는 인물이나 사건으로 제목을 삼아 제작되면서, 내용도 독자들의 흥미에 맞게 각각 번역 또는 개작되었다. 光復 이후에는 「楚漢志」로 더 유명해졌다. 김기진의 「統一天下」가 등장한 이후 최근의 이문열의 「초한지」에 이르기까지 당대의 유명 작가들의 힘을 빌려 탄생한 「초한지」는 번역본이 아닌 새로 개작된 歷史小說이다. 이처럼 「西漢演義」는 우리 文學史에 지속적으로 등장하면서 영향력을 넓혀나갔다.
Abstract
The aspects of the handed-down of “SeoHan-Yunui(西漢演義)”, were portrayed as being very diverse. Published books were introduced from China and in Korea, Chinese manuscripts, books printed from wooden blocks and the old-typed printed novels were produced and distributed. Chinese manuscripts had the characteristics of historical ‘romance’ rather than fictional ‘novel’. In case of Korean translations, the published works from China were translated at a the level of mere word-for-word transla- tion For books printed from wooden blocks, the story was reorganized with a focus on interesting scenes, considering the interest of readers. The old-type printed novels were made with intriguing characters and events which could catch the attention of the readers, as their titles. After the Independence, it became more popular as “ChoHan-Ji(楚漢志)”. “ChoHan- Ji(楚漢志)” newly created by then famed authors, is not a translation work but a historical novel which has been newly adapted.
