초록
Electron beam irradiation technology is widely applied to the degradation of organic pollutants in environmental media. The most important policy for activating organic farming is to reduce the hazards of pesticides such as herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides in the agricultural ecosystem. We investigated the degradation of herbicide 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) by electron beam irradiation as a function of the absorbed dose in an aqueous solution. An aqueous solution of 2,4-DCP was irradiated with an electron beam at 1, 5, and 10 kGy, and the corresponding degradation efficiencies were 79.3, 98.2, and 99.2%, respectively. Total organic carbon content was decreased by 20.1% at a dose of 10 kGy compared to the control. Phytotoxicity to rice decreased with increasing of electron beam doses, and was almost eliminated at doses greater than 5 kGy. These results suggest that electron beam irradiation technology effectively removes organic contaminants such as 2,4-DCP.
