Abstract

This study was designed to identify the effects of MLD(Manual Lymphatic Drainage) on Electrocardiogphic(ECG) activity before and after applying massage. The subjects were thirty-two young female adult(17 in experimental group, 15 in control group) who had not experienced any heart problem. The ECG activity(LFN, HFN, LF/HF ratio, RSA, mean HRT, SDDN) of was recorded by surface electrodes. The MLD was applied with a comfortable pressure for 40 minutes on the back. The results of study were as follows: The comparison of LFN, HFN , LF/HF ratio, RSA, mean HRT, SDDN) between experimental and control group showed significantly different after the massage applications(p<0.05). Consequently, the study showed that the MLD commonly used in skin care center was effective in reducing symphathetic nervous system. Further studies are needed to identify whether there are differences in the effects of many types of massage on ECG activity and autonomic nervous system.
