Abstract

This study is to figyre out the degree of skin health practices and its related factors among middle-aged women. A convenient sample of 245 women aged 35-55 in Seoul and Kyunggi-do areas was employed to do bivariate analyses and multiple regression analyses. A focus was given to see if there was any differences of factors related to skin health practices between those with regular job and housewives. Data showed that the respondents tend to do skin health practices in frequence of sometimes, with passive methods. Bivariate analyese found that skin health practices varied across groups of monthly income classes and of educational levels. Multiple regression analyese indicated that variance in skin health practices was accounted for by variances in deucational levels, monthly income, deress of self-esteem, and caring for physical appearance. A separate multiple regress in analyses were employed to compare factors related to skin health practices between housewives and those with regular job. A variable of caring for physica appearance was shared in two regression models and degree of self-esteem was included in only regression model for housewives. In conclusion, skin health practices among middle-aged women was correlated with socio-psychological factors rather than physicas factors such as age, experience of menopause, and condition of skin.
