산업별 특성과 근로자 연령 및 직업교육이 임금에 미치는 효과

The Effects of Age and Occupational Education on Wages in the Industry

초록

본 연구는 임금을 결정하는 다양한 요인 가운데 최근 연구들이 주목하는 근로자의 중등교육과정에서 직업교육 이수 여부에 따른 임금격차에 대한 실증분석을 실시하였다. 또한 구체적으로 개인 근로자의 소득을 10년의 기간을 두고 추적 분석하면서 연령과 직업교육 효과와 산업의 차이가 임금에 미치는 영향력을 분석하였다. 산업별 특성을 통제하기 위하여 제조업과 서비스 산업으로 구분하였으며, 서비스 산업 안에서의 이질성을 반영하여 서비스 산업을 네 가지로 분류하였다. 횡단면 분석에서 관측되지 않는 근로자의 특성이 임금수준 결정에 영향을 미치는 내생성 문제 해결을 위하여 패널회귀분석, GLS 추정과 이원확률효과모형 분석을 실시하였다. 패널회귀분석, GLS 추정 결과에 따르면, 제조업과 서비스 산업에서 직업교육은 임금에 정의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 한편 연도별 횡단면 분석에 따르면, 직업교육이 2007년 횡단면 분석에서 일반교육에 비해 임금에 정의 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났지만 2012년과 2017년 횡단면 분석에서는 직업교육의 임금효과가 사라지는 것으로 보고되었다. 연도별 회귀분석 결과가 시점에 따라 상이함에 따라 시간 이질성을 고려한 이원확률효과 모형 분석을 실시하였다. 이원확률효과모형 분석결과, 산업더미 변수는 유의하지 않으며 직업교육은 임금에 정의 효과를 유의하게 가지는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 산업더미 변수 중에서 저숙련 근로자인 기타 서비스 산업 종사자의 임금수준은 제조업에 비해 유의하게 낮은 것으로 보고 되었다. 이에, 본 연구는 임금에 대한 직업교육의 단기적 효과가 존재한다고 주장하며 근로자의 평균 연령이 높아지는 추세와 함께 급변하는 환경 속에서, 직업교육은 학교에서 일로의 이행(School to Work Transition)의 책무 뿐 아니라 좀 더 적극적인 역할을 해야 한다고 제안한다.

Abstract

This study provides an empirical analysis of the effects of industry characteristics, age of workers and vocational education on wages. For this purpose, it is divided into the manufacturing industry and the service industry, and the service industry is classified into four categories reflecting the heterogeneity in the service industry. In addition, we performed panel regression analysis, GLS estimation, and heterogeneity of time, to analyze the problem of endogenous production, where characteristics of workers not observed in cross section analysis affect wage level determination. Panel regression analysis, GLS estimation results show that vocational education has a statistically significant effect on wages in the manufacturing and service industries. On the other hand, according to yearly cross-section analysis, vocational education showed a short-term wage increase effect. Also, according to the binary probability effect model considering time heterogeneity, vocational education has a statistically significant effect on wages in manufacturing and service industries. Therefore, this study suggests that there is a short - term effect of vocational education on wage and that the domestic climate prefers higher education can be a factor that hinders the long - term effect of vocational education. Also, the short-term effects of vocational education on wages exist and preference for higher education can be a hindrance to the effects of vocational education. The results of this study suggest that demand for low-skilled labor may decrease at a certain point in the future, along with the trend of increasing average age of workers, thus requiring policy support for job training or career development.
