Abstract
Despite the long discussion on bilateral monopoly, there seems to be some misunderstanding in how the price and output are determined. We first remind the traditional argument about bilateral monopoly in order to resolve such misunderstanding. We also study the firm’s incentives to reveal their private information in a bilateral monopoly with asymmetric information. The firms simultaneously decide whether to reveal their private information and then negotiate on the price and the output. We show that the firms voluntarily reveal their information and choose the output to maximize their joint profit. The price is determined by the relative negotiation power of the firms.
