본 연구는 고령사회에서 누가 노인 인구를 돌봐야 하는가?라는 물음에 대해 유학이 어떤역할을 할 수 있는지 고찰하고, 고령화에 따른 노인문제 해결에서 가족돌봄문화가 갖는 의의를 밝히려 한다. 이러한 연구 목적을 달성하기 위해 우리에게 익숙한 유학적 전통의 ‘관계’ 개념을 ‘돌봄’이라는 지평에서 해석한다. 이로써 고령화 사회에서 우리가 당면한 죽어가는 노인을 누가 보살펴야 하는가 하는 문제를 푸는 실마리를 제공하고자 한다. 나아가 서양의 개인주의에 바탕한 요양원 중심의 호스피스캐어 문화를 단순히 국내에 수입 적용하는 차원을넘어서 유학을 기초로 가족돌봄문화의 이론을 정립한다. 21세기에 이르러 유학은 동아시아의경제 발전과 민주주의 동력으로 재평가되고 있다. 또는 우리 사회는 유학의 관계 그물망으로짜인 사회이다. 이에 따라서 우리 사회의 고령화로 인한 노인 복지의 문제를 유학의 관점에서 고민하고 변화의 방향을 모색하는 것은 의미가 있다. 그래서 본 연구는 21세기 유학이 혈연주의를 넘어서 보편적 학문인 인권유학을 지향함으로써“누가 병약한 노인들을 보살펴야 하는가”라는 당면한 문제에 시의적절한 대답을 내놓을 수있다는 점을 논의한다.
Abstract
Who should care for the elderly population in an aging society? Confucianism can play a role in the question, and attempts to clarify the significance of family care culture in resolving the elderly problem with aging. To achieve this research purpose, the concept of “relationship” of the Confucian tradition that we are familiar with is interpreted from the horizon of “care”. This will provide a clue for solving the problem of who should take care of the dying elderly in an aging society. Furthermore, the theory of family care culture is established based on Confucianism, beyond simply applying domestically imported hospice care culture based on Western individualism. In the 21C, Confucianism has been reevaluated as the driving force for economic development and democracy in East Asia. Or our society is a society woven into the network of relations of Confucianism. Therefore, it is meaningful to consider the issue of welfare for the elderly caused by the aging of our society from the perspective of Confucianism and to seek the direction of change. Therefore, this study discusses the fact that the 21C Confucianism can provide a timely answer to the immediate question, “Who should take care of the sickly elderly?”
