1980년대 한국 여성시에 나타난 웃음과 그 시적 언어의 정치성

Abstract

This paper was fashioned to shed light on the fact that the poetry by women in the 1980s was also written in defiance of the oppressive reality in a uniquely different way as the masculine poetry of social engagement had, and that it led the way in the poetic discourse, adding diversity to the methodologies adopted. In contrast to the feminist or thematic discussions that we are familiar with, the focus of this study is placed on how the political and social awareness by the entities in the women's poetry of the time is revealed in the poetic discourse, and what kinds of poetic effects are created by the 'laughter', the medium of formality that draws out the poetic discourse. It is an important objective of this study to examine the politics and resistance of women's poetry of the 1980s, referred to as 'dreadful modern times' and the period of political repression, through the poetics of laughter and to unveil the diverse methodologies employed by female poets to put up 'political resistance' to the realities unfolded in the 1980s, showing that the resistance was not exclusive to the poetry by male. Goh Jung-hee used ma-dang-gut, a festival of the common people, to showcase the carnivalistic play of language that mocks the ruling class and the effect of political retribution by way of community laughter. In her works, Choi Seung-ja used laughter to expose the denial, violation, and resistance to the conflicting reality. In particular, her use of humor and irony - as a methodological defiance to 'sleep paralysis' of the period - acts as a unique device of protest against the authority, lie, corruption, and oppression. Lastly, the works of Kim Hye-soon consciously borrowed laughter, which plainly functioned as a methodology that enables the creation of the poems. The tendency to use the word play on the surface level through pun and syntactic destruction represents the poetic device by which the pain from the reality is translated into a word play, thereby lessening the ponderous burden of the reality. With the fun fantastic play of words, she blunted the weight and terror of the reality.
