Abstract

Monk's robe is a sacerdotal robe which is wearing a Buddhist monk´s robe first, and wearing a monk's robe on, from left shoulder to right armhole. Monk's robe used to be causal wear of civilians from India, but there's been a religious meaning to it since Buddha enacted monk's robe as a buddhist monk's clothing. The law of Bubbhist had ruled the robe's material, color, and weave method, but you could find that the original meaning of their robe contains a practical message. At the national events, Jungmyungbubsa, the oldest monk among the crew, was supposed to wear the Gumrangasa or Gumsekui. The Gumrangasa made out of deep faith of Buddhism and is very important for those who study Buddhist culture. The purpose of this study is to know dress and its ornament from the end of Joseon Dynasty era. We can study it by looking into Gumrangasa, which is until now in the custody of the head priest of the Gumgang Buddhist temple in Gumi.
