Abstract
This study aims to examine the relationship between supervisors’ emotional intelligence and subordinates’ voice behavior and consider the mediating effect of LMX in this relationship. It also aims to investigate the moderating effect of subordinate’s proactive personality between LMX and voice behavior. To this end, we collected 301 of supervisor-subordinate dyadic data from employees in different organizations in various industries and verified the hypotheses through hierarchical regression. As a result, as expected in this study, the supervisor’s emotional intelligence positively predicted the subordinate’s voice behavior, and the mediated effect of LMX was confirmed in this relationship. The moderating effect of the subordinate’s proactive personality between LMX and the subordinate’s voice behavior was also statistically significant. When the subordinate’s proactive personality is high, the stronger relationship between the LMX and the subordinate’s voice behavior. Furthermore, the indirect effect of supervisor’s emotional intelligence on the subordinate’s voice behavior through LMX is expected to depend on the subordinate’s proactive personality. This conditional indirect effect is significant when the proactive personality is high. These findings have lots of implications for theoretical and empirical.
