중학교 기술·가정과 ‘기계의 이해’단원에 대한 학생들의 흥미도와 만족도

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine and analyze the interest and satisfaction level of middle school boys and girls in 'understanding of machinery' unit of technology & home economics subject in order to provide some information on how to spark the interest of students in this unit. The results obtained from a survey of 420 middle school students were as follows:First, the mean interest level of students for 'understanding of machinery' unit was 2.62 on a five-point scale, which is under the average (3 point). To remedy this situation, teachers should be well acquainted with what to teach, carefully consider how to ignite the interest of learners and direct their energy into the development of intriguing teaching materials and instructional models. Second, the mean satisfaction level of students for 'understanding of machinery' unit was 2.66 on a five-point scale that is also under the average. To resolve this problem, students should be surveyed in every semester to find out their needs for instruction to seek ways of raising their satisfaction. Third, questionnaires used for the interest and satisfaction level with the 'understanding of machinery' unit were composed of three parts: instruction, curriculum, and teaching aids & facilities. The students expressed the most interest in and satisfaction with teaching aids & facilities, followed by curriculum and instruction, however, all interest and satisfaction level for three parts were under the average. To redress this situation, the state-of-the-art oriented instruction should be presented to the students firstly. And then, technology lab and up-to-date learning equipment should be prepared to provide practical education, since this subject aims at offering practical education to foster thinking faculty. In addition, the development of interesting educational models is required to provide students with more satisfactory instruction.
