초록

This paper analyzed "Scenery", one of Hori Tatsuo’s early works, who showed strong interest in French modernism literatures and western paintings at the beginning of the 20th century. In this work, Hori Tatsuo depicted three different sceneries where "I" walked in to dispel his melancholy ; "barbaric scenery", "Vlaminck’s favorite scenery" and "scenery pictured by Henri Rousseau". As story develops through sceneries expressed by those painters, Hori Tatsuo tried to find a way of expressing the reality and nature in his literature. This paper examined "my" criticism of these three sceneries, by on the base of articles on Maurice de Vlaminck of then art magazine and Guillaume Apollinaire ‘s theory on Henri Rousseau which Hori Tatsuo certainly might had read. "Scenery"portrayed negatively Vlaminck’s way of expression as it depicted the <feelings> of a depicter by deforming an object. On the other hand, "Scenery" showed favor on Rousseau’s way of expression as its recognition to depict an object as it is expresses more beauty beyond reality. Since the early stage, Hori Tatsuo’s interest in paintings was focused on the recognition of reality and the way of expression how a depicter catches the reality and expresses it.
