芝山 曺好益의 <遊妙香山錄>에 대한 고찰

<유묘향산록>은 지산 조호익(1545～1609)이 쓴 유산기로 조선조에 들어서 지어진 묘향산에 대한 유산기 중 최초의 본격적인 유산기로 손꼽힌다. 이 유산기는 조선조에 창작된 수많은 유산기들이 거의 천편일률에 가까운 형태를 지니고 있음에 비해 자신만의 독특한 관점에서 산을 바라보고 느끼고 즐기며 해석했다는 점에서 확연히 구분될 수 있는 특징을 지니고 있다. 즉 산을 단순히 유람의 대상으로서만 바라보지 아니하고 그 산을 통하여 성리학자로서의 깊은 관조와 정신을 글 속에 투영했다는 점이다. 비록 아름다운 문학적 묘사에 치중하지는 않았지만 산을 또 다른 깊은 성찰을 체득할 수 있는 공간으로 인식하였다는 점에서 독특하다. 특히 이 유산기에서 사용된 열여섯 가지 삽화 형식의 구성은 다른 유산기에서는 거의 찾아볼 수 없다는 점에서 그 표현의 방법에 있어서도 성공한 유산기라고 할 수 있다.
Abstract
<The book of sightseeing in Myohyang Mountain> was written by Jo Ho-yik (1545-1609). This book was the first sightseeing book in Myohyang Mountain in Joseon Dinasty. Many other sightseeing books were written on the same string, but Jo Ho-yik wrote the book with his own characteristic view that he saw, felt, enjoyed, and interpreted the Myohyang Mountain. He was not only seeing the mountain with sightseeing view, but also poured the spirit and contemplation of Sung Confucianism scholar onto his book. Even though he did not depict the mountain beautifully and literalily, but recognized the mountain as the place for deep reflection. Especially, this book was organized by illustrations of sixteen types, but these types was not discovered in any other sightseeing books. He was sussessful in expression of the mountain.
