大人の<昔話もの>としての一九作合巻『大江山酒顛童子談』の特徴少考 －筋立て・絵組・文体を中心に－

Abstract

The characteristics of Ikku's Gokan "Oeyama-shutendoji-dan,” published in 1820, can be summarized as follows: First, in the illustration, there are many scenes that incorporate the Kabuki production of “emenno-mie”(close-up like a painting), which is similar to musha-e (warrior paintings) and shibai-e(pictures of Kabuki plays). Second, as a stylistic feature, the ratio of kotobagaki (descriptive parts) to kakiire (words) in the text is approximately nine to one, and the main role of Kakiire is to express one's feelings or to make fun of the scene. The latter is Ikku's unique use of Kakiire, with the primary purpose being to convey Mudaguchi (chatter) in a humorous manner. The reason for this style of writing is speculated to be that this Gokan is a collection of “folktales” where you can enjoy the story. Thirdly, we can describe the world of Gokan as either a "Shitenno (four loyal retainers) of Yorimitsu" or a "story of killing Shutendoji." Although this world caters to children, its themes, such as unrequited love and the outpouring of obsession, resonate with adults. The villainous character's illicit love and obsession with love drive the plot of this adult story. Thus, the world of the Shuten-doji story, the world of the Ibaraki-doji story, and the world of the Watanabe-tsuna story combine to form the general framework. The biggest idea of author Ikku was to transform the world of heroic legends and ghost stories into a love story between the main characters, Shuten, Ibaraki, and Raikou.
