여행이 학교에서 가르칠만한 형식적 지식이 될 수 없다는 외부의 교육적 편견은 2015 지리 교육과정 개정 작업 에서 제기되었다. 이는 여행에 관한 부정적 인식의 결과물로서, 여행이 학문의 대상이 될 수 없다는 학문적 편견과 공명 한다. 이러한 편견에 대응하기 위해 교육과정 연구진은 여행 지리 과목의 주요 내용을 관광(혹은 대중 관광)이 아닌, 여행(혹은 대안 여행)에 초점을 두고 구성함으로써 교육적 정당성을 확보하고자 했다. 그러나 외부의 교육적 편견에 대응 하기 위한 이러한 시도는 여행을 ‘좋음’으로 상정하고, 관광을 ‘나쁨’으로 치부하는 이분법적 구분을 초래함으로써 고등 학교 여행 지리 교과서 내에서 여행과 관광을 구분 짓는 ‘편견 내의 편견’을 생산하게 되었다. 하지만 고등학교 선택과목 으로서 여행 지리를 개설한 근본적 원인이 학생의 일상 경험 및 흥미에 기반한 과목 개발이었다는 점을 고려한다면, 여행과 관광을 구분 짓는 ‘편견 내의 편견’은 학생의 흥미를 반감시키고, 학생이 현재 경험하고 있는 여행의 방식을 부정하 는 결과로 이어질 수 있다. 이러한 점을 고려하여 여행과 관광을 구분 짓는 ‘편견 내의 편견’은 기각될 필요가 있다.
Abstract
The educational prejudice that travel cannot be formal knowledge that can be taught in schools was raised in the 2015 National Curriculum revision work. This is the result of negative perceptions about travel, and resonates with the academic prejudice that travel cannot be an academic subject. To counter this prejudice, the 2015 National Curriculum researchers attempted to secure educational legitimacy by focusing the main content of the travel geography subject on travel (or alternative travel) rather than tourism (or mass tourism). This attempt was able to counter external prejudice, but ultimately resulted in a dichotomous distinction that recognized travel as ‘good’ and considered tourism as ‘bad.’ This was again reflected and described in high school travel geography textbooks, producing a ‘prejudice within prejudice’ that distinguishes travel from tourism. However, considering that the fundamental reason for opening travel geography as an elective subject in high school was to develop a subject that takes into account students’ everyday life experience and interests, the ‘prejudice within prejudice’ that distinguishes travel from tourism can result in reducing students’ interest and denying the way students are currently experiencing travel. From this perspective, the ‘prejudice within prejudice’ that distinguishes travel from tourism needs to be rejected.
