Abstract
This study analyzed the spatial distribution of ‘Dalgu sound’, a type of funeral song recorded in Gyeongsangbuk-do, and examined the distribution characteristics and propagation patterns of its subtypes. The research results indicate that ‘Dalgu sound’ is concentrated in the Nakdong River basin within the Central Lowland region of Gyeongsangbuk-do, suggesting this area as the cultural center of ‘Dalgu sound’. Among the subtypes, the ‘Dalgu-ryu’ is generally distributed along the Nakdong River basin in the Central Lowland, but its spread to the eastern coastal lowlands is minimal due to the barrier effect of the Taebaek Mountains. The ‘Dariyo-ryu’ appears only in the Daegu Basin region and is believed to have spread mainly along the Geumho River and Baekcheon Stream to areas adjacent to Daegu. In contrast, the ‘Dariyo-ryu’ does not appear in the outer areas of the Daegu Basin, suggesting that Daegu serves as the cultural center of this subtype. The ‘Ehiyong-ryu’ is mainly distributed in Yecheon-gun, located in the upper basin of the Nakdong River in northern Gyeongsandbuk-do, which is considered its cultural core. The ‘Ehiyong-ryu’ can be divided into two types the ‘Deolgu-Dalgwe-Ehiyong’ type, centered around the Naeseongcheon River basin, and the ‘Ehiyong-ryu’, which spreads along the Nakdong River. The mountain area located at the boundary of these two types appears to serve as a cultural boundary.
