MMASH(Multilevel Monitoring of Activity and Sleep in Healthy People)

Abstract

This study proposes a model for predicting sleep and wake states using biosignals. Data on sleep and wake states, heart rate, RR intervals, acceleration vector magnitude, and step counts were extracted at 10-minute intervals from the publicly available Multilevel Monitoring of Activity and Sleep in Healthy People (MMASH) dataset. The characteristics of the data were analyzed using the t-test and point-biserial correlation coefficient. A total of 2,495 samples were used, of which approximately 70% (n = 1,746) were assigned to the training set in building the random forest and support vector machine models, and the remaining 30% (n = 749) were used as the test set to evaluate model performance. The random forest model achieved an accuracy of 92.7% in classifying sleep and wake states using all variables. This study demonstrates the potential of non-invasive biosignals combined with machine learning models for sleep state prediction in daily-life environments. This model is expected to contribute to the development of real-time sleep monitoring systems using wearable devices in future research.
