본 연구에서는 Erikson이 발달심리학이론에서 제시한 생산성의 개념에 기초한 생산적 아버지역할하기 모형을 개관하고 성인교육적 함의를 알아보았다. 생산적 아버지역할하기 모형은 아버지 부재가 아동발달에 미치는 부정적 영향을 강조한 기존의 결핍모형을 대치하는 긍정적 모형으로 자녀의 욕구충족과 발달을 위해 헌신하며 윤리적 책임을 갖는 능동적 아버지 역할을 제시한다. 대부분의 선행연구가 아버지의 자녀양육 참여가 아동발달에 미치는 영향을 파악하는데 중점을 두었음에 반해, 본 연구는 생산적 아버지역할이 남성의 성인기 발달에 미치는 영향에 대해 성인교육적 관점에서 탐색하였다. 생산적 아버지역할의 수행은 남성의 자아존중감과 심리적 복지감에 긍정적 영향을 미치며 자녀와의 공감과 연계감을 갖도록 지원한다. 생산적 아버지역할하기에 대한 성인교육적 함의를 전 생애발달심리학적 관점과 발달과업, 생활체계, 경험학습 및 전환학습의 차원에서 각각 탐색해 본 결과, 생산적 아버지역할은 성인기 발달과업 중 생산성의 달성에 핵심적이며, 실제적 상황에서의 경험을 통해 지식을 축적하는 경험학습 과정이며, 삶의 새로운 의미 창출로 전환학습이 이루어지는 성인학습 과정으로 파악되었다.
Abstract
This study was undertaken to overview the concepts of generative fathering and discuss its concepts from adult education perspectives. Previous studies on father involvement were mainly based the deficit model which emphasized the negative effects of father absence on children. Generative fathering, first suggested in Erikson's psychosocial developmental theory, evoked a positive, ethical, and responsible way of fathering. This study was focused on identifying the effects of fathering on father himself. Many studies asserted that fathers benefit from their fathering experiences by increased self-esteem, psychological well-being, empathy and connectedness. In this study, constructs of generative fathering were analyzed in terms of life-span development and developmental tasks, life-structures, experiential learning and transformative learning. It was concluded that adult man could develop through generative fathering which is perceived as adult learning process. Finally, implications for new father education programs were suggested.
