Abstract

The purpose of this study was to explore what career needs mid and late career women seek through their career path. The kaleidoscope model describes the flow of individuals in the process of career formation. It explains how people constantly change priorities between each career demand - authenticity, balance and challenge. The research method was a qualitative case study, in which 6 mid and late career women of various professions were set as participants and qualitative data collected through in-depth interviews were analyzed. As a result, we found six categories such as ‘Authenticity 1) frustration experience as an opportunity for self-reflection, 2) towards a new self’, ‘Balance 1) turning the kaleidoscope, 2) unity of work and non-work life’ and ‘Challenge 1) learning by necessity, 2) time of rebound’ for each career need. Based on the research results, it was possible to discuss the explanatory power and limitations of the kaleidoscope career model. It also confirmed that the career courses in which women themselves led and shifted the center of gravity served as a stepping stone to expand their authenticity and pursue new challenges.
