Abstract

The early poetry of Jang-Ho pursued newness with an interest in modernism and poetic drama, but after his forties, he developed unique mountain poetry, the imagination on shoes, and the Non-dual thought of missing persons. He also expressed his thoughts on society as a poet through the ‘crow serial poetry’. the crow serial poetry is based on his personal experience in Tokyo. In this regard, ‘mountain, shoes, crows, missing persons’ in his serial poetry are valuable resources for understanding the characteristics of Jang-Ho's literary work. Jang-Ho's ‘Mountain serial poetry’ shows the process of escaping from a timid self and it is different from usual nature poetry which contains friendly and ecological themes. In that sense, the Jang-Ho's mountain poetry can be regarded as a work that has developed a unique place that only the poet can create. The mountaineer, Jang-Ho, has great pride in his legs and feet. He washed his feet first in the bath, and cleansing his hiking boots after every mountain climbing. His deep connection for his feet and hiking boots is evolved into a unique imagination of ‘shoes’, which is the driving force of creation of ‘shoes serial poetry’. The ‘crow serial poetry’ is satirical poetry on Japanese that came out of his personal experience in Tokyo. These poems are valuable materials to understand the historical perception of Jang-Ho because the poetry presents the historial events and facts he directly experienced while he was in Tokyo. The ‘missing persons serial poetry’ is a result of the fusion of Jang-Ho's climbing experience and imagination on shoes. Those whom he loves are those who are lost in mountain. For the poet, those missing persons are living in his mind forever, and ‘life/death’ and ‘mountain/see’ are not separate worlds.
