Abstract

The aim of this study was for second and fourth digit(2D:4D) ratio, a marker for prenatal testosterone exposure, to find out what kind of difference there is with to groups (judoka, a general student), as well as to figure out the relationship between digit ratio, grip strength, back muscular strength, muscle power, muscular endurance. Research subject were 102 middle school and high school students(54 general male, 48 athletes male ). We measured their ratio of the 2nd and 4th left and right fingers. Here we show following conclusions measuring grip strength, back muscular strength, standing jump and so on. It has shown there was lower digit ratio in female than in male in terms of both right and left hand. We have also found that judo athletes groups had lower digit ratio than general groups(p<.000, p<.003). In terms of correlation between (2D:4D)ratio and performance in various athletic disciplines, we have found that there was meaningful correlation in grip strength, back muscular strength, handgrip strength per body weight, back muscular strength per body weight, and standing jump except for hanging down from chin-up bar. In conclusion, regardless of athletes groups have lower (2D:4D)ratio rather than general groups and we could verify that the lower the ratio is, the higher performance in various athletic disciplines is.
