Abstract
This study aims to examine the impact of sign transparency in digital media on the interaction be- tween readers and works, as well as to analyze the effects that such transparency induces. Digital me- dia has emerged as a new media environment at the intersection of advancements in Internet tech- nology and postmodern social logic, shaping an Internet society characterized by spatial fluidity and temporal immediacy. These technological changes have altered public perceptions of time and space while also reconstructing the way signs mediate meaning. This research is based on the remediation theory of Jay David Bolter and Richard Grusin, analyzing sign transparency with a particular focus on the concept of transparent immediacy. It explores how sign transparency facilitates meaning formation and interaction between readers and texts in digital media. To achieve this, the study selects general photo texts and comic texts as case studies, applying a theoretical framework for comparative analysis. The findings reveal that photo texts, due to their lack of contextual information, lead readers to intuitively interpret the author's intent, resulting in multiple interpretations. In contrast, comic texts utilize narrative structures and visual signs to guide the reader's understanding progressively, high- lighting differences in sign transparency. Based on these findings, this study discusses the positive and negative effects of sign transparency on reader experience in the digital media environment, offering new insights into text analysis and interaction design in the digital media era.
