Abstract
This study aims to examine the current state of the education projects conducted by the Busan National Gugak Center from 2009 to 2024 and propose strategies for their future activation and improvement. To achieve this, the Center’s education projects were categorized into two main types: education & training program and experience, viewing, and special lecture program to assess their management status over the years from 2009 to 2024. Additionally, this study analyzed the current conditions of programs launched each year, focusing on project status, the number of programs op- erated annually, their target audiences, and participant numbers to provide insights into the future trajectory of the Center’s education initiatives, comparing these factors to the outcomes of previous projects. Research findings indicate that the Busan National Gugak Center has operated a total of 14 education and training programs from 2009 to 2024. These programs were conducted 7,498 times (91.46%) with 12,813 participants (18.65%). Additionally, the Center has offered 17 experience, view- ing, and special lecture programs, which were held 700 times (8.54%) with 55,880 participants (81.35%). In total, the Busan National Gugak Center has conducted 8,198 sessions over the past 16 years, recording 68,693 participants across various social groups. However, an annual analysis re- vealed that the Center's education projects experienced stagnation following the outbreak of COVID-19. Nevertheless, the opening of the Gugak Education Building in 2023 has provided renewed momentum, revitalizing these programs. The analysis by target audience revealed that the projects were disproportionately focused on the general public and adolescents. Therefore, this study suggests ‘addressing the cultural gap’ across different target groups and regions to enhance the Center’s edu- cation projects in the future while establishing a social cooperation network system. Accordingly, the Center must strengthen its policy efforts by considering diverse life cycles, economic conditions, re- gional distribution and environmental backgrounds overall and meeting a wide range of demands while ensuring that those who are culturally marginalized are left behind.
