초록

This study analyzes the rescue patterns of wild animals in the Gwangju region from 2019 to 2023 and investigates the underlying causes and patterns of distress. The study examines 2,516 reported cases from the Gwangju Wildlife Rescue Center, including 2,232 birds, 265 mammals, and 19 amphibians and reptiles. The number of rescue cases has shown a consistent increase over the years, with birds accounting for 88.7% of the total. An analysis of the causes of distress revealed that “orphaned juveniles” were the most common, with 1,066 cases, followed by traffic accidents and collisions with buildings. Monthly rescue patterns indicated a significant rise in cases during spring and summer, aligning with the wildlife breeding season. The findings suggest that habitat changes due to urbanization are a major cause of distress for wild animals. This study highlights the urgent need for effective wildlife management in urban areas and underscores the importance of policy measures aimed at biodiversity conservation and ecosystem protection. Additionally, it reaffirms the necessity of raising public awareness and education on wildlife protection.
