교양교육에서 연구소의 역할과 정체성에 관한 일고찰 -교육과 연구의 환류 가능성을 중심으로-

이 글은 S대 교양교육연구소의 6년여에 걸친 인문사회연구소사업(교육연계형)의 성공과 성장 경험을 통해 연구소의 역할과 정체성을 탐색하고, 교육과 연구의 환류 가능성을 논의 한 것이다. 한국 교양교육은 사반세기 동안 학문적 위상을 확립했지만, 교육과 연구가 연계 되지 않는 탈동조화 현상이 지속되고 있다. 연구소를 교육과 연구의 거점으로 활용하여 공동연구 및 환류 체계를 구축하는 방안을 제안하였는바, S대 교양교육연구소 사례를 톺아보고, 연구소가 가져야 할 미래 비전과 책무를 통해 정체성을 탐구해 보았다. 이 글은 교양교육의 질적 향상을 위해 연구소가 공동 연구 및 교수 학습 혁신의 중심이 될 필요성을 강조하며, ‘생산적 실패’ 개념을 적용하여 시행착오를 허용하고 이를 개선 과정으로 삼는 전략을 제안하였다. ‘어포던스’개념을 통해 교수와 학생의 자발적 참여를 이끌어 내고 환류할 수 있는 방안도 주목했다. 특히, 연구소 간 협력 및 학술 교류의 중요성을 강조하며, 교양교육연구소 협의회의 역할과 향후 발전 방향을 제안하였다. 연구소가 대학 교양교육의 학문적⋅정책적 허브로 자리 잡고 교육과 연구가 유기적으로 환류되는 구조를 매개할 때라야 지금의 교양교육은 활로가 생길 수 있다. 이를 통해 교양교육의 체질 강화를 도모하고, 연구소가 저마다 특성화⋅전문화를 도모해야 외연이 확장되고 지속적으로 성장할 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
This article explores the role and identity of the Institute of Liberal Arts and Education at Sookmyung Women’s University through the success and growth of the Institute’s Humanities and Social Sciences Research Project (Education-Linked) over the past six years, and discusses the possibility of feedback between education and research. Korean liberal arts education has established its academic status over the past quarter century, but the phenomenon of disharmony, in which education and research are not linked, continues. We proposed a plan to establish a joint research and feedback system by using the institute as a base for education and research. We looked at the case of the Institute for Liberal Education at Sookmyung Women’s University and explored its identity through the future vision and responsibilities that the institute should have. This article emphasises the need for the Institute to become a centre for joint research and innovation in teaching and learning in order to improve the quality of liberal arts education, and proposes a strategy that applies the concept of ‘productive failure’ to allow trial and error and use it as a process of improvement. The conference also focused on ways to encourage voluntary participation and feedback between professors and students through the concept of ‘epochal’. In particular, it emphasised the importance of inter-institutional cooperation and academic exchange, and proposed the role and future development direction of the Council of Liberal Education Research Institutes. The current liberal arts education can only find a way out when the research institute becomes an academic and policy hub for liberal arts education at universities and mediates a structure in which education and research are organically fed back. This will strengthen the liberal arts education and allow the research institutes to expand their scope and grow continuously by promoting their specialisation and specialisation.
