한국인은 이민자를 같은 국민으로 생각할까 아니면 남으로 인식할까? 다문화사회로 진입하는 한국은 이민자 혐오표현으로 내국민과 이민자 간의 갈등이 확산되고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 한국인이 이민자를 어떻게 인식하는지 분석하는데 연구적 의의가 있다. 이민자를 탈북자, 이주 노동자, 결혼 이민자, 조선족으로 분류해 집단별 이민자에 대한 태도를 분석하는 데 연구의 목적이 있다. 분석 결과 일자리를 위협한다고 인식할수록 탈북자, 결혼 이민자, 조선족에 대해 부정적인 태도를 갖는다. 또한 외국인의 범죄율이 증가한다고 인식한 한국인은 이주 노동자에 대해 부정적인 태도를 갖는다. 반면 이민자로 인해 한국 문화가 풍부해진다고 느낄 때 탈북자, 결혼 이민자, 조선족에 대해 긍정적인 태도를 갖는다. 종합해보면 일자리 경쟁과 범죄율과 관련해 이민자에 대한 부정적인 태도를 가지고, 다문화 요인에 대해 이민자에 대해 긍정적인 태도를 가진 것으로 분석된다. 본 연구는 이러한 발견에 입각하여, 한국인이 이민자를 긍정적으로 인식하기 위한 방향을 제안한다.
Abstract
Do South Koreans acknowledge immigrants as South Koreans or as strangers? In Korea, which is entering a multicultural society, conflicts between Koreans and immigrants are spreading due to hate speech. The purpose of this study is to analyze the attitudes toward immigrants by group, North Korean defectors(NKD); foreign workers(FW); marriage immigrants(MI); Korean-Chinese(KC). I find that South Koreans are more likely to exhibit negative attitudes toward NKD, MI, and KC when their jobs are threatened. Also, when crime rate caused by foreigners increase, negative attitudes toward FW occur. On the other hand, When Koreans perceive that Korean culture is abundant as immigrants increase, they have positive attitudes toward NKD, MI, and KC. To sum up, negative attitudes toward immigrants occur due to job competition and crime rate, and positive attitudes toward immigrants occur by multiculturalism. Based on these findings, this study proposes a direction for Koreans to positively recognize immigrants.
