본 연구는 중학생들의 생성형 AI 활용 실태와 인식을 파악하고, 생성형 AI에 대한 교육 시행 후 인식 변화를 분석하였다. 이를 위해 경기도 부천시에 재학 중인 중학생 대상으로 2차시의 생성형 AI 교육 프로그램을 적용하고, 사전-사후 설문에 모두 참여한 1,034명의 응답을 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 교육 프로그램에 참여한 중학생의 절반 정도가 생성형 AI를 사용해 본 경험이 있었으나, 사용 빈도는 대부분 월 1∼2회 이하에 그쳤고 주된 목적은 학습과 정보 검색이었다. 미사용 학생들은 사용 방법을 모르거나 AI 사용의 필요성을 느끼지 못한 것으로 조사되었다. 생성형 AI 교육 프로그램 시행 후, 생성형 AI에 대한 생각, 생성형 AI에 대한 이해도, 생성형 AI 활용 자신감, 생성형 AI 역량 중요성 인식을 묻는 모든 질문에서 통계적으로 유의미한 긍정적 변화가 확인되었다. 본 연구는 다음과 같은 시사점을 제공한다. 첫째, 중학생들의 생성형 AI 활용 실태와 교육적 요구를 실증적으로 파악하였다. 둘째, 실습 중심의 교육 프로그램이 학생들의 생성형 AI 인식 변화에 효과적임을 입증하였다. 셋째, 생성형 AI 윤리 교육의 방향성을 확인하였다.
Abstract
This study examined the current usage and perceptions of generative AI among middle school students and analyzed changes in their perceptions after receiving generative AI education. To achieve this, a two-session generative AI education program was implemented for middle school students in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, and responses from 1,034 students who participated in both pre- and post-surveys were analyzed. The study found that about half of the students who participated in the program had experience using generative AI; however, the majority used it less than once or twice a month, primarily for learning and information searching. Students who had not used generative AI reported that they either did not know how to use it or did not perceive a need for it. After participating in the generative AI education program, statistically significant positive changes were observed in all survey questions related to students' thoughts on generative AI, their understanding of it, their confidence in utilizing it, and their perception of the importance of generative AI competency. This study provides the following implications: First, it empirically identified middle school students' generative AI usage patterns and educational needs. Second, it demonstrated that a practice-based education program is effective in changing students' perceptions of generative AI. Third, it provided insights into the direction of generative AI ethics education.
