Abstract

The aim of this paper is to give a broad description of the geography of the Mediterranean region. Given the large number of countries which make up this region and their geographic diversity, the geographic characteristics had to be described in broad outline. Firstly, basic patterns of spatial structure of mediterranean region were considered. Secondly, principal industries were discussed. Thirdly, population geography was considered: demographic change and international migration. Fourthly, urban system of the region was described. Fifthly, constraint factors on development were also reviewed: environmental and economic crises.
