이 글의 주목적은 무한성을 향한 감성을 함양하는 교육이 오늘날의 인류에게 포스트 휴먼 시대를 예비하는 데 필요하다는 것을 밝히는 것이다. 필자의 논증은 다음과 같이 요약될 수 있다. 1. 오늘날 포스트 휴머니즘은 많은 의미를 지니는 용어이다. 그러나 포스트휴머니즘을 둘러싼 담론들이 모두 과학과 기술의 발전과 긴밀히 연관되어 있다는 것은 부정할 수 없다. 포스트 휴머니즘의 핵심에는 인간의 지적, 신체적, 심리적 역량을 강화할 목적으로 테크닉을 활용해야 한다는 이념으로서의 트랜스 휴머니즘이 놓여 있다. 2. 트랜스 휴머니즘과 연관된 것으로서 포스트 휴머니즘은 근본적으로 자아중심적인 이념으로 간주되어야 한다. 포스트 휴머니즘은 전지전능한, 불멸의, 존재가 되고자 하는 개인적 꿈에 그 근거를 두고 있다는 뜻이다. 3. 전지전능한, 불멸의, 존재가 되고자 하는 개인적 꿈의 실현은 각각의 개인이 자신의 고유한 죽음의 무한한 반복가능성 및 타자에 의해 무한히 고문당할 가능성을 소멸할 수 없는, 언제나 이미 임박해 있는 존재론적 가능성으로서 가지게 됨을 뜻한다. 그 근본적인 이유는 진지전능한, 불멸의, 존재가 되고자 하는 개인적 꿈이 무한성에 대한 산술적 이념에 토대를 두고 있는 것이기 때문이다. 4. 포스트 휴먼 시대에서의 자신의 고유한 죽음의 무한한 반복가능성 및 타자에 의해 무한히 고문당할 가능성을 말소하는 것은, 모든 인간들이 진지전능한, 불멸의, 존재가 되고자 하는 개인적 꿈을 포기하지 않는 한에서는, 불가능하다. 5. 그러나 타자와의 존재론적 관계를 되찾는 것은 가능하다. 타자와의 존재론적 관계를 되찾기 위해서는 비산술적 무한성에의 감성을 회복해야 한다. R. 슐라이어마허(1768~1834)와 왕양명(1472~1529)은 비산술적 무한성에의 감성을 회복할 대책을 제시해주는 두 탁월한 사상가이다.
Abstract
The main purpose of this paper is to demonstrate that a education of sensibility of infinity is necessary for contemporary humankind to prepare for posthuman era. My argument can be summarized as follows: 1. Nowadays posthumanism has many meanings. But it is undeniable that all kinds of discourses on posthumanism are closely connected with advances in science and technology. At the core of posthumanism lies transhumanism, understood as an idea that we should seek the possibility to make available technologies for enhancing human intellectual, physical, and psychological capacities. 2. Combined with transhumanism, posthumanism should be considered as an fundamentally egocentric idea. It means that posthumanism is based on individual dream of becoming an omniscient, omnipotent and immortal being. 3. The realization of the individual dream of becoming an omniscient, omnipotent and immortal being means that each individual has the infinite repeatability of his/her own death and the infinite torturing by others as an undeletable, always already imminent ontological possibility. The fundamental reason for it is that the individual dream of becoming an omniscient, omnipotent and immortal being is based on the arithmetical idea of infinity. 4. It is impossible for us to erase the possibility of the infinite repeatability of individual death and the infinite torturing by others in posthuman era as far as all human beings do not abandon the individual dream of becoming an omniscient, omnipotent and immortal being. 5. But it is possible for us to regain the ontological relationship with others. In order to regain the relationship with others, we must regain a sensibility of non-arithmetic infinity. F. Schleiermacher(1768~1834) and Wang Yangming(1472~1529) are two excellent thinkers who suggest a solution to regain a sensibility of non-arismetic infinity.
