최근 들어 기정진의 이기론에 대한 평가를 두고 학계 일각에서 문제가 제기되고 있다. 그러나 분명한 것은 기정진의 성리학은 철저한 ‘理 중심의 철학’이라는 것이다. 기에 대한 理의 절대적 主宰性을 강조하여 기의 운동 변화의 원인으로서의 理를 강조하고, 본체와 현상의 통일적 원리이자 현상계의 다양성의 원인으로서 리를 제시하는 기정진의 이기론은 현실적으로 드러나는 선악의 문제를 해결하는데 논리적인 문제점을 가진다고 할 수 있다. 따라서 선악의 문제에 대해 기정진은 생존 당시부터 弟子들을 비롯한 많은 知人들로부터 논란의 대상이 되었고, 기정진 자신도 이에 대한 해명을 적극 시도하였다. 본고에서는 기정진의 성리설에서 선악 문제에 대한 문제가 어떻게 드러나고 있으며, 이에 대한 기정진의 해명은 어떻게 이루어지고 있는가를 살펴보았다. 그리고 선악문제를 통해 과연 기정진이 의도하고자 하는 내용은 과연 어떠한 것이었으며, 이를 통해 이기에 대한 기정진의 설명이 어떠한 의미인가를 구명해보고자 하였다. 절대적인 도덕적 원리로서의 리가 현실에서 어떻게 구현되는 가에 대한 의미로 볼 수 있는 선악에 대한 기정진의 입장은 결국 그의 이기론 구조와 연결되는 것으로 볼 수 있기 때문에, 선악문제는 기정진의 이기론을 해명하는 새로운 단초를 열어줄 수 있다고 할 수 있다.
Abstract
Recently, the appraisement about Ki-Jeongjin's li-ch'i theory(理氣論)is being disputed in academic world. But, it is obvious that his li-ch'i theory is absolutely li centered philosophy. His li-ch'i theory emphasizes li as the cause of ch's movement, by li's categorical superintendence to ch'i and It presents li as unifying principle about substances and phenomena, and li is cause of diversity of the phenomenal world. But his theory has some logical controversial points on solving realistically exposed good and evil problem. So, his opinion on problem about good and evil was criticised by his pupils and his academic acquaintances during his lifetime. Therefore he attempted to elucidate his opinion. In this article, I examined some problems about good and evil problem in his Neo-Confucianism, and how he elucidated his opinion. And I will find his purpose that he made by dealing good and evil problem. and then I investigated the meaning of his explanation about li-ch'i. It can be regarded that his opinion about good and evil - that can be inferred like how li realized actually as categorical moral principle - is ultimately connected to his li-ch'i theory structure. Therefore 'good and evil problem' can be a new point of view in interpreting his li-ch'i theory.
