Abstract

The Political Economy of Colonial Korea by Takeo Suzuki was expressed as 'Keizaiteki Naisen Ittai Ron'(Economic Integration of Japan and Korea) in a theoretical sense, and was created for warfare in wartime and against reparation policy after World War II. Suzuki could not be free of the imperial prejudice of Korea, from colonial to post-war period. He thought the politico-military motives were more important than the economic profitability. He had the same turn of mind in post-war. The stress of politico-military motives over economic sides about colonial Korea were the basic perception of Japanese Imperialism. Because functioned only within Japanese categories, this perception was smug in the view of Korean People. Suzuki's emphasization of 'Korea' was relatavie to colonial modernism-developmental colonialism, and therefore rendered 'Asian emancipationism' from Western Europe and U.S. American policy makers were pessimistic about Korean economy after World War II, because their perspectives were accordance with Suzuki's analysis that the artificial profitability of colonial industry of Korea in wartime was broke down in proportion to dismentlement of bloc economy in post-war. The issue of economic reintegration for the second half of the 1940s could not succeeded in not only politico-military but also economic sides, because Japanese government accorded with Suzuki's imperialist image of Korea. By extension of imperial colonialism, the plan of economic integration of Korea and Japan encountered strong opposition from Korean nationalism-postcolonialism.
