모가 경험하는 사춘기 자녀 양육에 대한 현상학적 연구

우리나라의 사회·문화적 특성상 사춘기 자녀의 주양육자이자 지원자인 어머니의 역할은 매우 중요하다. 이에 본 연구의 목적은 사춘기 자녀를 둔 중년 여성을 대상으로 어머니의 사춘기 자녀 양육경험에 대한 의미와 본질적 구조를 알아보는 것이다. 이를 위해 현상학적 연구 방법 중 Giorgi의 방법을 활용하였다. 연구를 위해 B시와 G도에 거주하는 어머니 6명을 대상자로 선정하였다. 현상학적 연구를 위한 인터뷰를 실시하였으며, Giorgi의 방법을 사용하여 분석하였다. 전사한 인터뷰 내용 전체를 읽으면서 진술 내용을 의미 단위로 분석하였으며, 이를 통해 385개의 의미 단위를 도출하였다. 그리고 이를 16개의 하위 구성요소로 묶었으며, 최종 4개의 단계로 나누었다. 연구 결과, 사춘기 자녀를 둔 어머니의 양육 경험은 ‘일상’, ‘갈등’, ‘극복’, ‘도약’이라는 단계로 구성된 본질적 구조로 이루어졌다. 특히 어머니의 사춘기 자녀 양육 경험에 대한 가장 핵심적인 주제는 소통이었으며, 소통을 위한 마음 비움의 과정을 통해 어머니가 성장함으로써 사춘기 자녀와의 관계가 긍정적으로 변화됨을 발견하였다. 이상의 연구 결과를 바탕으로 볼 때, 본 연구는 사춘기 자녀를 양육하는 어머니를 위한 부모교육에 대한 방향을 제시한다. 그리고 사춘기 자녀를 둔 중년기 어머니 교육에서 중년 여성의 심리발달단계에 대한 특성과 삶의 전환에 대한 의지 과정 관련 교육이 부가되어야 함을 시사한다.
Abstract
Considering socio-cultural characteristics in Korea, mother’s role has been extremely important as not only main rearers but also supporters for adolescent children. The purpose of this study is to examine the meaning units and essential structure of middle-aged women’s experiences as mothers for rearing adolescent children. The Giorgi’s method was employed among various phenomenological methods for this analysis. In this study a total of six mothers were chosen as interviewee, residing in B city and G provinces. Interviews were carried out for the phenomenological study, and the Giorgi’s method was used for this analysis. Data from interviewes were analyzed to derive 385 units of meanings, which were grouped by 16 components of elements. Based on our analyses, the structure of rearing experiences was composed of four steps, namely, ‘ordinary’, ‘conflict’, ‘overcome’, and ‘leap’. In particular, the core theme of the experiences for rearing adolescent children was intercommunication. It was found that the positive progress in the relationship between mothers and children was achived through mothers’self-training by having an empty mind for the intercommunications. This study suggests new directions to the advanced education of mothers for rearing adolescent children, indicating that additional education components such as, characteristics of psychological development steps and transition processs of life-style of middle-aged women, should be included in the education.
