Abstract

This research focuses on the contents industry, whose importance has been highlighted by the Hanryu(Korean Wave). For this reason, the government is preparing various policies for the contents industry, and measures for fostering the local-oriented content industry were proposed in particular. However, while this government's policy is positive in that it has sparked regional interest in the contents industry, it may be negative in that excessive competition has worsened the efficiency of resource allocation. Therefore, this study analyzes the inducement effect of the contents industry on the local economy and attempts to analyze whether the contents industry can be fostered by region. As a result, it is desirable to foster the contents industry in Seoul, Jeonbuk, Daejeon and Ulsan rather than in Gyeonggi in terms of production activities, and local governments should foster the contents industries in Seoul, Busan and Gyeongnam rather than in Jeonnam, Gwangju, and Gangwon. Also, when looking at the impact on GDP, it is desirable to foster contents industry in Daejeon, Jeju and Seoul rather than Gyeongbuk, Gyeongnam, and Incheon as a whole. In terms of the impact on GRDP in the region, it seems desirable to foster contents industry in Seoul, Gyeonggi and Jeju rather than in Gyeongbuk, Chungnam, and Incheon. Next, when looking at the economic effect of the contents industry on the local governments in each industry, we can see that the local government's strategic industries vary depending on the aspect of production activity and value added. In conclusion, the current government's regional development strategy for the contents industry seems to be desirable. However, it seems necessary to select and nurture competitive industries based on information on regional economic effects, as fostering all industries in the contents industry could worsen the efficiency of resource allocation.
