초록

This study was conducted to assess effects of facial skin cleansing with Sapindus mukorossi fruit extract. A total of 20 subjects (5 males and 15 females) were required to wash facial skin with hot water S. mukorossi fruit extract once daily in the evening for 14 days. Measurements were taken before and after 1, 3, 7 and 14 days of daily use. Subjective evaluations were also performed by using a 5-point Likert scale questionnaire. Initial cleansing with the extract significantly decreased (p<0.05) U zone oil, T zone oil, sebum content and pore size. A gradual increase in skin moisture level was observed, becoming significantly elevated after 7 days (p<0.05). Skin sensitivity decreased gradually, becoming significantly reduced after 14 days (p<0.05). No adverse effects related to the extract were detected during the test period. In the subjective evaluation, average scores for cleansing effect, sebum removal, hydration, exfoliation, pore improvement, non-irritation, afterfeel satisfaction and overall satisfaction ranged from 3.20 to 4.10. The categories rated highest were cleansing effect and overall satisfaction (average score = 4.10). It can be concluded that S. mukorossi fruit extract has an excellent skin-cleansing effect without impairment of skin barrier function.
