이 연구는 시민들의 경찰역할인식과 범죄두려움의 관계를 규명하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 경찰의 역할은 시민 개개인의 특성에 따라 다르게 인식될 수 있기 때문에 이를 고려하여 잠재프로파일분석을 실시하였다. 구체적으로 주간/야간, 경찰차/경찰관 목격시 유사한 경찰역할인식을 가진 시민들의 집단을 형성한 후, 각 집단에 경찰역할인식과 범죄두려움의 관계를 비교·분석하였다. 주요한 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 경찰역할인식에 대한 잠재프로파일 유형은 ‘범죄예방인식집단’,‘주간예방·야간대응 인식집단’,‘범죄대응인식집단’,‘차량예방·도보대응 인식집단’으로 확인되었다. 둘째, 경찰역할인식에 대한 잠재프로파일 유형별 범죄두려움에 미치는 영향력을 분석한 결과, 범죄예방인식집단 대비 ‘주간예방·야간대응 인식집단’과 ‘범죄대응인식집단’에 속할수록 범죄두려움이 증가되었다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 경찰활동의 범죄예방적 측면을 강조할 수 있는 몇 가지의 방안을 제시하고자 한다.
Abstract
This study aims to examine the relationship between citizens' perception of police roles and fear of crime. Considering that the role of the police can be perceived differently by individuals, latent profile analysis was conducted taking into account individual characteristics. Specifically, citizens with similar perceptions of police roles during daytime/nighttime and when encountering police cars/police officers were grouped using latent profile analysis, and the relationship between police role perception and fear of crime was compared and analyzed within each group. The key findings of the study are as follows: First, latent profile groups regarding perception of police roles were identified as 'crime prevention perception group', 'daytime prevention/nighttime response perception group', 'crime response perception group', and 'vehicle prevention/pedestrian response perception group'. Second, an analysis of the impact of fear of crime by latent profile type regarding perception of police roles revealed that fear of crime increased as individuals belonged to the 'daytime prevention/nighttime response perception group' and 'crime response perception group' compared to the crime prevention perception group. Based on these research findings, several measures emphasizing the crime prevention aspect of police activities are proposed.
