초록
Joseph, the protagonist of Dangling Man by Saul Bellow, is the person dangling in the air as implied by the title of the text. He represents the man who is critically stuck in the middle, isolated from the realities of life. In this paper, I focus my research on the process and the meaning of 'hyunhae' (ravelling out from dangling) as the keyword of Chuang-tzu, that is to say Joseph overcomes his self-alienation and returns to his unit. True freedom, as Chuang-tzu means, is 'Moowi'(for no purpose). This is a sense of belonging by loosing a sense of belonging. Joseph doesn't need to search for freedom or to make a decision for himself. Finally, he sets himself loose, to be free as a duck takes to water.
